There are a few key trends you will see featured in my spring racing dress collection. I will be incorporating lace into some of my designs for the carnival and complementing this with structured elements to complete a strong but feminine theme. I am so lucky to have a large selection of laces in the Sydney area so I can pick and choose the perfect types for each design. On top of this I dye a lot of the lace for my designs to achieve the perfect colour for my look.
The tea length skirt, which is traditionally an inch longer than a 'midi' length skirt is very on trend again this spring which is perfect for the races as it is modest but feminine, as all racing attire should be. This length is great for a fitted pencil skirt, fit and flare skirt and full skirts.
Colour is also something very important to consider. Below is a colour chart of the Pantone 2015 Spring trends to assist in colour selection for your carnival outfits. Marsala and Strawberry Ice are the two favorite colours for me for spring. I have dyed my fabrics for one of my designs to achieve these shades and variants of them. I still have one more outfit to design completely from scratch so will be basing the colours schemes on the below colours. Not to forget that Derby Day (31st October at Flemington) is traditionally black and white so keep these colours away. Black and white (and cream and charcoal, sshhh) are best for Derby.
To name a few of the Fashions on the Field events over Spring, the biggest and most prestigous event is the Myer Fashions on the field and the following are to come during spring this year.
The Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day at Royal Randwick on Saturday 10 October 2015. For more information see below link.
Crown Perth Opening Day at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 17th October 2015. For more information see below link
AAMI Victoria Derby Day on Saturday 31 October 2015, Emirates Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 3 November, Crown Oaks Day on 5 November 2015. All at Flemington Racecourse.
I have also been advised that there may be a smaller scale Fashions on the field event at Rosehill Racecourse Sydney on Cellarbrations Girls Day Out on Saturday 14 November. This is still to be confirmed so I will keep you posted.
I am looking forward to keeping you informed of all the fashion over the spring carnival from The Fashions on the Field. I will also be reporting on all the fashion and the action from inside The Birdcage at Flemington this year.
